Meet the Neck and Contour Team

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is led by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Tongchun Mao, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site and performs the operations it compares. Both sides of the decision are represented on the team: Dr. Ke He holds the assessment of skin quality that decides whether fat removal alone can work, Dr. Yongbo Jia holds the dermatological assessment and the conditions that have to be settled first, and Dr. Shaoliang Wang holds the necks that have already been operated on.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Aesthetic surgery · neck and facial contouring · the fat-or-skin assessment

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

The neck is the area where the two operations on this site are most often confused, and Dr. Mao's position is that the confusion is entirely avoidable. Fat, loose skin and a separated muscle sheet produce three different necks and need three different answers, and the examination is what separates them. He declines liposuction where the skin will not retract, declines a lift where the only finding is fat, and says so when the honest answer is that the patient should wait until their weight has settled or until the cause has been diagnosed.

Clinical focus

  • Surgical assessment of the neck: how much is fat, how much is skin, and whether the muscle bands
  • Neck contouring, including when a lift and fat removal belong in the same operation
  • Honest referral when the finding is a medical cause rather than an aesthetic one
  • Revision after previous neck surgery or liposuction, including contour irregularity
  • Shared case planning within the four-physician team

The neck is three tissues, not one

Fat under the chin, skin that has lost its elasticity, and a muscle sheet that has separated are three different findings. Liposuction removes the first. A lift repositions the second and the third. A plan that does not say which of the three is being treated is a plan that has not examined the neck.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · complex cases · revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

On this site Dr. Wang's part is the neck that has already been treated: contour dips after liposuction, a result that has relaxed after a lift, and the question of what can safely be done next. He is also the hospital-level resource when a neck operation is followed by a complication that needs more than an outpatient visit.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin & laser aesthetics · skin quality and healing

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

On this site Dr. He holds the question that decides the liposuction half of the comparison: whether the skin of the neck will retract after fat is removed. That is a quality of the skin rather than a quantity of fat, and it is assessed before the operation rather than discovered after it. She also manages the skin conditions that have to be settled before either operation, and the pigmentation and scarring that follow them.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · assessment and complication management

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Dr. Jia's part of this comparison is the neck that should not be operated on yet. Skin disease, a scar that is still maturing, and the skin changes that follow significant weight change all belong to a dermatological assessment before any surgical plan is made. He also manages the skin after a neck procedure when healing does not follow the expected course.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Find out which tissue has changed

Arrange an assessment. We will establish whether the fullness in your neck is fat, loose skin or muscle, explain what each operation would and would not change, and say plainly if neither is the right answer.
